This virtual performance was a way to share our students’ personal experiences. Each performer was challenged to explore their individual stories and identity. The actors used spoken word poems as the platform for the devised pieces. They first studied several other spoken word poets to help them understand the genre.
The students also participated in a guest artist session with Alejandro Jimenez, an award winning spoken word poet, and former North Denver educator. Many of the performers used the platform to speak about some of the injustices and difficulties they are facing.
