Dear North Golf Supporter,
The North High golf program is undergoing a resurgence. Just eight years ago, it was non-existent. The boys program restarted seven years ago, and the girls program followed three years later. The program has gained in popularity and participation over the last few years with the girls’ team reaching 10 golfers in 2019. Unfortunately, the girls 2020 season, which takes place in the Spring, was cancelled due to COVID but we expect at least 12 golfers in 2021. The boys team had a record 21 golfers in 2020 and was the first sport in the state to participate in high school athletics in the wake of COVID-19 restrictions.
Not only have the programs grown, but they have also achieved success. This past season, the boys team finished in 2nd place, just eight strokes behind 1st place in the City of Denver. Of the four-1st team All-Conference players, two of them were Vikings and of the four selected for 2nd team All-Conference, one was a Viking. The two All-Conference players also qualified for the State Championship in Colorado Springs last October. After just the second year of competition, the Girls Golf team sent their first golfer to the State Championship and the following season they qualified the 4-person roster to compete as a team at State. Unfortunately, the Spring 2020 golf season was canceled due to COVID-19.
The North golf coaches want to build on this momentum and take the program to the next level by creating a year-round, state-of-the-art, indoor practice facility within walking distance of the high school. Please click here for a video of the facility. Currently, we practice at Willis Case Golf Course, which offers short game practice areas but does not have a driving range. We partnered with the Elks Lodge, who will provide the space, and set a goal of raising $50,000.00 for three instructional simulators, training equipment and facility build-out. I am proud to say that us coaches are doing much of the build-out work ourselves. Being able to practice year-round, including full-swing practice, will not only allow our current players to develop and improve, but it will help us introduce the game to new participants who may not otherwise be able to learn this great lifelong sport.
We are hoping to have you involved in this project. Your support will springboard our efforts in bringing the North High community onboard and allow us to meet our fundraising goal. Together, we can achieve this dream for the current Viking golfers and for the many still to come. All contributors will be recognized with their name and/or logo displayed in the facility. We have various support levels to choose from, with varying degrees of recognition, which we are happy to discuss. We thank you for your consideration and we invite you to reach out for a private tour.
