School Counselors at North collaborate with our mental health team, school nurse, deans and so many more people in our building and community to support Social Emotional Learning.

North High School Counselors. Meet the team:

Hi! My name is Melisa Springsteen and I support students’ last names A-C, grades 9-12th. I’m All In for collaboration because it takes a village/team to support students, families, staff and each other.

Hi! My name is Jessica Rodriguez and I support students’ last names D-H, grades 9-12th. I’m All In for collaboration because it takes a village. Finding success through high school is a team effort and we can’t do it without all of our stakeholders.

Hi! My name is Francine Ruybal and I support students’ last names I-M, grades 9-12th. I’m All In for collaboration because students need different types of support from different individuals in their lives.  The more supportive relationships the better!

Hi! My name is Kathy Hoffman and I support students’ last names N-R, grades 9-12th. I’m All In for collaboration because the more we work together, I believe the bigger impact we all can have on each other- especially our students.

Hi! My name is Joanna Wood  and I support students’ last names S-Z, grades 9-12th. I’m All In for collaboration because by working together we are able to accomplish so much more.

Social Emotional Learning

School Counselors at North collaborate with our mental health team, school nurse, deans and so many more people in our building and community to support Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Social-emotional learning, or SEL, “is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions” (CASEL, 2019, para.1)

Resource: Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning [CASEL]. (2019). What is SEL? Retrieved from https://casel.org/what-is-sel/

At North High School, SEL happens through classroom lessons, small groups, individual meetings, and whole school activities/presentations. Check out our SEL website for more information.
